Background : Among gallbladder cancers, signet ring cell carcinoma(SRCC) is a very rare form of cancer among gallbladder cancers. Signet ring cell carcinoma has a highly invasive and aggressive character and it mainly exhibits non-specific symptoms of benign gallbladder lesions. Thus, this cancer is usually diagnosed at an advanced stage. Since it is a rare disease, there are no standard treatment guidelines.

Methods : Accordingly, we would like to report a patient with Signet ring cell carcinoma of gallbladder diagnosed and treated in this hospital

Results : An 80-year-old woman visited the hospital for laparoscopic cholecystectomy for suspected gallstone causing chronic cholecystitis. A routine CT scan revealed a malignancy in the gallbladder. She underwent a laparoscopic radical cholecystectomy. On biopsy, this patient was diagnosed with Signet ring cell carcinoma of gallbladder with regional lymph node metastasis, which led to postoperative adjuvant 5-FU chemotherapy. She is currently being followed without recurrence.

Conclusions : Since the SRCC of the gallbladder is extremely rare and the time that SRCC is diagnosed varies significantly among patients, it is difficult to compare the efficacy of each treatment option and patient’s survival.
